Killing time with Darts

Hello ,

it was quiet in the night so i decided to kill my time with small stakes on Darts in the PDC World Championship on the final of Taylor against Barneveld. Those matches are really joy to watch. The atmosphere is excellent and the matches usually have a lot of fun with commentators old Brit style to give a special aura into something that usually is considered boring. Though, when you do watch the masters on any sport from football to chess or darts its always a pleasure and time passes happily.

My first intention was to trade the scores of 7-0 , 7-1 and 7-2 but Taylor was amazing cleaning up his opponent.

Taylor was very strong on the start of the match but also Barneveld lost some crucial darts on the endings of the legs so he was already 3-0 and 4-1 down. Then it was one way for Taylor.

I'm not a darts enthusiast but i have noticed some key points on games i watched recently. For those who don't know Taylor is the world top player ever. He have won the World Championship a dozen of times. Barneveld is the 2nd best but i've seen him struggling in this tournament so i thought he doesn't stand big chances winning this one.

There is something i call Taylor effect. If Taylor wins 2-0 , 3-0 then most of the players get frustrated and those matches turn into clean sheets or 1 friendly loss of Taylor for the opponent. This is just a view from recent matches i've watched with Taylor.

For the record i was extremelly lucky as well as Taylor have made his best ever appearance on a final with an average of 110 which is something unreal if we consider that best possible score for three throughs of darts is 180. Anyway those are technical stuff not really important.

As you can see on the cards. My initial intention was to trade the scores and i did had the chances to trade them all for sure profit. I had the chance to trade 7-0 that i bought initially @ 28 with odds around 8-10 but also i had the chances to trade 7-1 score with odds of 8 , 4 , 2 and even 1.5 - 1.15!!!

But my punter's nature came through so i just left those bets running.

The question is if that was the right decision. I really don't know. Judging on the result , yes it was. But is really necessary when you have a bet running on 21 odds to let it run when odds are 1.15 , 1.2 or even 2?

Warren Buffet said once "
There seems to be some perverse human characteristic that likes to make easy things difficult." and it seems that sometimes (even if the stakes are small) we really do let the bet running for no reason at all just to make something easy , really difficult...

Have a nice evening...

ps. Two posts in two days are simply too much:)
